What to Add to Your Grimoire?

Before you start writing in your grimoire, you need to know what to add to your grimoire. This would be different for every witch and it all depends on what you want to learn and do in your practice. In my blog post Grimoire vs Book of Shadows, I go over a little bit about what you should add to your book. In this blog post, I will go over some questions you can ask yourself in order to see what you should add to your own grimoire.

Having a clear idea of your path will help you in creating your grimoire. You will know how you would want to decorate it, how to organize it, what is important to your craft, and what information you need to add to your grimoire. For example, for a hearth witch, like myself, I will want to make sure to include a section for recipes, home blessings and proctencions, how to care for plants, herbology, etc. As a christian witch, I would want to have a section for my bible verses, devotions, bible studies, etc.

Spend time thinking about these questions and meditate over them. Be honest with yourself on your answers. You want to create a path that is true to you and will suit your spiritual needs. Below I’ve added all the questions you should answer and I’ve also created a printable you can print out and use.

About You

  1. How do you see yourself?
  2. How would someone else describe or see you?
  3. What are the things you are interested in?

Your Beliefs

  1. Do you see religion and spirituality the same or different? Explain why.
  2. What made you decide to start your path as a witch?
  3. What do you hope to gain from your practice?
  4. What type of witchcraft are you drawn too? Any particular cultural, heritage, a mixture, etc?
  5. What comes naturally to you? Explain what they are.
  6. Do you believe in any Gods, Goddess, and/or deities?
  7. Are you drawn to any divination such as tarot, oracle, runes, tea reading, palm reading, numerology, etc?
  8. Do you feel a strong pull to crystals, seasons, moon phases, astrology, animals, plants, etc?

Reflection

Gather up all your answers and reflect on them. Write up a few paragraphs to get an understanding of the path you will and want to follow. Once you’ve done this, start organizing your grimoire with categories you want to add.

I would suggest you to create a category for general information of witchcraft. This would be the history of witches and witchcraft. Different types of witches, common witch terms, the elements, and so on. If you don’t know where you start, you can check out my section, general information, under grimoire. You can also look up books about witchcraft and read those as well. You can add what resonates with you in your grimoire.
