A few weeks ago, I talked about the difference between a Book of Shadows and a Grimoire. I included a few links to other blogs to help bless your book and today I’m going to explain why you should bless your book. I’ll also include a few different ways how you can bless your book. I use the word Grimoire or book throughout this post but this can be any name you use for your book(s). I just prefer to call mine a grimoire.
Why you should protect your Grimoire?
Your grimoire is a very special book that you will add personal things to it. You can add anything you like that resonates with you and your practice. It’s important to bless your book and protect it from others. You don’t want someone to mass with your book or add their energy to it. Think of this as your personal journal or diary and you don’t want others to read it unless you give them permission.
Now you can have two different books. One that is personal and one that is just information about your practice. This is completely up to you on how many books you want. Either way, you still need to bless and protect both books.
Different Ways You Can Bless Your Book
Below are different ways you can bless your book. Use the ways that feels right to you. You can combine a few different ways to create your own blessing.
1. Meditate or Prayer
Meditating or praying are very simple ways to bless your book. When doing this, you can add your own energy to your blessing and to your book(s). You can visualize or think about all the different things you want to add to your book. Think about all the intentions you have for your book. You can write down all your thoughts and keep it within your book. You can also write your prayer in your book as well.
2. Smoke Cleansing or Blessing
You can burn different herbs or incenses that’s for blessings and protection. Bay leaves, elder, myrrh, St. John’s Wort, willow, and sage would be good to use. When burning these, you would want your book next to the smoke or blow the smoke onto your book. Be safe when burning incenses and herbs.
Please keep in mind that white sage is sacred herb and you should get permission in order to use it.
3. Moon Blessing
You can place your book under a new or full moon. You can place your book on a window sill or if they weather is nice, you can place it outside under the moonlight. You can ask the moon to bless your book and to add it’s energy to your book for you to use. A new moon is for new beginnings and for setting goals.
4. Crystals
You can place a few crystals around or on top of your book. You would want to use crystals that are for protection. A few crystals you can use are selenite, amethyst, black tourmaline, leopard jasper, black obsidian, clear quartz, blood stone, and/or angelite.
5. A Blessing Spell
You can create a spell or use a blessing spell to bless your book(s). There are many blessing spells that you can find by doing a search on Google. You can even purchase a book that has blessing and protection spells in it to use. This one will take time to gather what you need and which spell will work for you. I would suggest to do one of the simpler ones first, and once you have a good amount of research done, you can come back and do a blessing spell on your book.
Always remember:
When doing any of these, you would want to state your intentions for your book. Your words are powerful and can be used as energy. You want to be calm and have a clear mind before blessing your book. You don’t have to go all out when blessing your book. This blessing should be simple and easy to do. If you want to go all out, you can. Do what is comfortable to you.
In another post, I went over an easy and simple book blessing ritual that I do. You can use that one if you like.
